The former director of the Garcia de la Concha Academy believes that the work will be "an important service to digital natives"
The Royal Academy of the Spanish Language (RAE) and the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE) have presented their first Spanish style manual on Monday. This unprecedented publication aims to serve as a practical guide to solve all those doubts arising from the evolution that in recent years have experienced certain orthographic, phonetic or grammatical issues and that today continue to cause confusion or controversy about its use.
Under the title Book of style of the Spanish language and the tagline according to the pan-Hispanic norm, the work places the focus on the spelling of digital writing, which "must not abandon but accept all the existing linguistic norms", explained the honorary director of the RAE, Víctor García de la Concha .In its first chapter, this new work insists on the institution's opinion of rejecting the use of inclusive language and considers all variables of double gender inclusion (such as "all and all", "todxs", "todes" or "tod @ s"). In addition, it makes clear that the masculine gender, "because it is unmarked, can include the feminine in certain contexts".

The inclusive language debate was reopened last July when the Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo , entrusted the RAE with a report on the modification of the text of the Constitution so that, in her opinion, it would reflect greater parity between men and women. women.
Precisely, during the month of December, the RAE will debate and approve, or not, the aforementioned report. As Villanueva said in July, from the institution continue to consider that "the problem is to confuse the grammar with machismo" and announce that "there will be great news" for the vote .. It is very possible that the 'hot potato' it falls to his successor, since Villanueva leaves office on December 13, the day on which the academics will meet to elect a new director.
García de la Concha, who was director of the Academy from 1998 to 2010, has served as coordinator of this volume of 504 pages, which he described as "an important service to digital natives", capable of "solving ordinary difficulties in a way striking and concentrated ", offering a" quick find "of answers in the form of" pills ".
The idea of this project emerged with this century, which introduced a new way of reading through digital media and its new combinations of text and image in devices that, suddenly, emitted light instead of receiving it as the paper did. Specifically, the approach was made for the first time in 2001, at the II International Congress of the Spanish Language of Salamanca, by the academic Francisco Rico.
The volume, published in a first run of 10,000 copies and priced at 24.90 euros, includes a typography of digital signs and a glossary of terms such as tuit, yutubero or guasap . All this, maintaining the polycentric principle that the institution has been applying for decades with the aim of "improving the use of our common language, a widespread language and with many modalities that must be addressed", as explained by its director Darío Villanueva.
