Tips for developing artistic style and generating creative ideas.
Pursuing a path of being a working artist can be sometimes daunting. When I first started with the dream of becoming an artist that sells art I knew there would be roadblocks and sometimes crazy obstacles but thought inner strength would overcome them. Trying to ignore those obstacles doesn’t always work though.
Sometimes you have to go back to the “real world” and take care of not fun business. These creative robbers of the day or night can suck the artistic life out of you like Dracula. Trying to get back into magic art land can be a challenge.
Removing barriers to creative thinking.
The journey of art magic land can seem way off in some other dimension or universe. Creative Magic for me means being one with the universe. Dancing on moonbeams and feeling the energy of a glowing sunrise starting the day. Then taking that energy within and creating. The creative spirit is a different universe far from the real world. Not everyone would understand that. These types of folk think you can just jump back in at a certain appointed time and come up creative. They believe you can hop back into a creative zone with no issues. At least for me, it doesn’t work that way. Maybe it is because I lean towards being introverted. My creative spirit feeds with meditation energy. With quiet walks in nature and being one.
This post describes some techniques that can be used to help you achieve artistic dreams and aspirations. Hopefully, you can stay on your path of dreams and artistic visions.
I have things in my head that are not like what anyone has taught me — shapes and ideas so near to me — so natural to my way of being and thinking that it hadn’t occurred to me to put them down. Georgia O’Keeffe
Getting back on the creative track and staying there.
Keeping a journal and writing down short term goals you want to achieve daily with topics like spending 1 to 2 hours working on a piece, working on the website building great content for an hour or so, etc. For me, it is easy to watch the day slip by and not achieve some artistic goals. If I have a written list it helps to stay on track. I keep a whiteboard to write down thoughts and goals and keep it in my studio.
Study your website analytics and see which pieces you are creating are getting the most notice. Then using those new found information tidbits developing long term goals to create art that will most likely achieve a favorable audience and fan base. Knowing what your future fan base like about your art will help keep a positive outlook and achieve your dreams of being an artist. Don’t be surprised how this will change over time. What I use to create and sell some years ago doesn’t sell now. Sometimes the market saturates in a particular style from others copying it and your sales drop off. You have to continuously study your analytics and see what is happening. I would suggest at least once a month digging into them.
Don’t get to hung up on what keywords are working. Web browsers have taken a lot of the organic search away and force you to pay for advertising for art-related keywords. Don’t believe me just try typing “red abstract painting” in the browser.
Dealing with some emerging artist dream blockers.
Some issues for the emerging artist can block your aspirations of a working artist. These being
- Getting noticed.
- Developing your style.
- building and developing a working studio.
- Storytelling
The journey of an artist can be complex and frustrating it seems at times. And it doesn’t happen overnight. We will zone in on developing your style with this post.
How do you determine an artistic style for you?
Style: Do you ever wonder how some visual artists have sell-out shows while others struggle to sell a piece. Most likely the successful ones have found and developed their style. With their emerged style the fan base grew to anticipate the artist’s next series. The key is to find the style that feels right within. Don’t try to force a style to work for you. All because it worked for another famous artist doesn’t mean it will work for you. Develop a unique style. Be true to yourself. If it is meant to be it will come. A lot of would-be artists run off to an art supply store with the motive of creating art with some special medium or paint. But the real tools and means come within. The supplies from an art supply store are just the means to bring it out and create and materialize a piece.
After you discovered your style of art you can use visions/dreams to develop your next series. Using meditation techniques you can make it more unique or a more one of a kind series. The key to meditation is using it a little every day to achieve your dreams. The manifestation of your goals must come first with meditation and visualization.
Using the law of attraction techniques for creativity.
The law of attraction theory focuses on visualizing positive images you want to achieve or manifestation. Meditation can also reduce stress and help you become more focused on your dreams and goals.
Remember an artist creates and doesn’t imitate. Keep the creative spirit alive and follow that path and live your dreams.
